eddie adams
Eddie Adams was born June 12, 1933 and died September 19, 2004. He was born in New Kensington, Pennsylvania but ended up making a living in New York City, However, he is best known for his war photos in the Korea and Vietnam wars. Eddie had a long career of photography spanning over 45 years, and covered 13 wars. On February 1, 1968 he took one of his most famous photos of a police chief general executing a Vietcong prisoner. In 1969 he won the Pulitzer Prize for Spot News Photography and a World Press Photo award. In 1977, he won the Robert Capa Gold Medal his photo essay, “The Boat of No Smiles.” He won the George Polk Award three different times in 1968, 1977, 1978, along with over 500 diferent awards. He opened up the Eddie Adams Workshop in 1988, which is still open today.

This is one of my favorite photos from Eddie Adams because it captures the intense feeling of being in battle. You get the feeling that you are actually there in the battle fighting with the soldier. You can see the raw emotion in the soldier as he is determined to shoot the enemy. When I look at this photo it makes me want to get up and do something. The center of interest is obviously of the U.S soldier. The design of this photo is to make it seem like the photo is moving. The main attraction is the soldier in the front and in the background are other soldiers running and a helicopter to add to the effect. This photo has shallow depth of field. The angle of view is under the soldier so that you are looking up at him as if he is more powerful. The photo has high contrast in the front and less contrast in the background to make the soldier look more intense and the color is black and white. What is communicated in this photo is that the U.S. soldier is attacking a vietnam soldier. It is to show the intenseness of battle and gives you an idea of what war is like.
